Ma République pleure – An Artwork Donated to Defend the Oceans

Vente greenpeace - Drouot

Charity auction in support of Greenpeace, Drouot, November 2025

Painted in 2017, My Republic Weeps carries a powerful symbolic weight. It was born out of a political turning point, when the far-right once again reached the second round of the presidential elections. The work expresses a profound sadness at the state of our Republic—the erosion of democratic ideals, the rise of nationalism, and the sense of powerlessness in the face of urgent crises.

Yet My Republic Weeps is not a painting of resignation. It is one of vigilance. She weeps, but she stands tall. Her quiet strength reminds us that democracy, like nature, is fragile—yet capable of resistance, renewal, and defense. This painting invites us not to look away.

It is in this spirit that I chose to donate it to the charity auction organized for the benefit of Greenpeace, which will take place on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Hôtel Drouot – Room 2 (Paris 9th). All proceeds from the sale will be donated to Greenpeace France’s Oceans Campaign, which advocates for the creation of marine sanctuaries and opposes deep-sea mining.

Offering this painting to such a cause affirms that art, too, can be a vehicle for commitment—a way to support civil society and contribute to meaningful action. To paint is already to act. To share is to extend that act.
